Hello July, Goodbye June!

If you are living in the Valley of the Sun like myself, you are probably staying inside as much as possible. YES… things are melting out here in Arizona! It has been so incredibly hot this summer! I am getting a lot of concerns as to what time I do my work, and if I am staying hydrated from my thoughtful clients. I swear- you guys are the sweetest! My family and I are keeping cool in our pool as well as getting out of town as much as we can and heading north to the family cabin to escape the heat. I have been doing all of my work in the early hours in the mornings before the sun can make things unbearable.

In June there were some amazing pieces that were completed for both customers and inventory.  As always please email, text or call me for a quote! Remember to get yourself on the First Dibs Email to be notified first on available pieces. Let’s take a look at what was completed for the month of June.

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last, you create what you will”

– George Bernard Shaw

This month the The Artistic Home Design officially became live on Second Chance Charms! Something that I have been working on for over a year. A dream that mother and daughter could team up and create something amazing together! You can read all about my mother and her artistic background here at Maureen Flanigan. We also posted our very first piece (available for purchase) in The Artistic Home Design. You can read about our dresser debut here: Abandoned Car – The Artistic Home Design.

We are looking forward to coming up with more pieces to the many collections we will have available!

xoxo- Rebecca

Recent Highlights June

Most recent work. A complete nursery bedroom set and a restoration on an antique record player! All custom pieces. If you have a piece that you would like refinished or restored please message me! You can view pieces that are for customization over at In the Studio and already finished available pieces for purchase over at Shop Selections.

Antique Record Player Cabinet

This was an exciting piece to be apart of, it didn’t involve refinishing but a nice restoration. My client bought this from her neighbor who bought it from a garage sale. Restoring this ol gal to her glory days involved sanding down the top and re-staining it in a custom Chestnut stain to match. The rest of this girl needed a nice deep clean to bring her back to life. I was told all her record parts work beautifully and now she too can sing a new tune with her Second Chance restoration!

Tall Chest of Drawers

Last week a Dresser and Nursery Crib were posted. Starting this week off with the final piece to this bedroom set, a tall chest of drawers.  Refinished in a solid sleek transformation using Sherwin-Williams Snowbound. Updated the previous knobs with these gorgeous wood peg and metal ring knobs from Hobby Lobby and added zinc washers in use for plate flair!

Dresser

Refinishing a nursery set for a client and I am in love with what these pieces look like! Yesterday the Nursery Crib was posted, today I am sharing the dresser and soon to follow the tall chest of drawers.

A solid sleek transformation using Sherwin-Williams Snowbound. Found these gorgeous wood peg and metal ring knobs at Hobby Lobby. My client had a wonderful idea to use gold washers for the plates to hide the previous hole cut outs that the original knobs left on the top row in both dressers. He loved it so much that we continued to use them for all the knobs adding a unique flair to these simple knobs.

Nursery Crib

Do you remember this lovely gem that was available for purchase in the Shop Selection?

After my new found clients took him home for their TV media center it wasn’t long before I received a message about some furniture they had that needed a Second Chance. Expecting another baby I refinished their nursery set a crib, dresser and a chest of drawers.

Keeping it a simple sleek smooth design I revamped this beauty in a solid finish using Sherwin-Williams Snowbound. First up the Crib!

The Artistic Home Design

Second Chance Charms is presenting a NEW product line called The Artistic Home Design! Featuring a collection of Fine art painting in acrylic by Maureen Flanigan on Second Chance furniture. A new style developed by a mother and daughter team bringing the traditional canvas paintings onto today’s refinished furniture.

Maureen Bolton Flanigan was born in Buffalo, N.Y, in 1963.  She showed an early interest in art and under the guidance of her Grandmother began painting in oil at the age of nine.  As a youngster, Maureen painted neighborhood windows for the holiday seasons and by her teens was painting windows at local businesses.  She progressed into painting murals and decorative work in private homes and businesses. She attended Phoenix College and graduated with an Associate’s degree in the Fine Arts program.  For several years, she was a student of renowned Arizona Artist Hal Weber, where she acquired a solid foundation in both portraiture and landscapes.  While living in San Diego, California, she became a student of renowned Western Artist Jack Jordan, developing her unique and vivid use of color.  She has won numerous awards in local shows and her paintings are in public and private collections throughout Arizona and California.  Maureen has served two terms on the City of Peoria Arts Commission.

Maureen and her husband Brad have been married for 35 years, they have 4 children, (one son-in-law and two daughter in-laws), and a total of 8 grandchildren.

Maureens’ daughter Rebecca, is very accomplished in her own unique style of refinishing furniture, and it seemed like a perfect fit to combine their talents to create fine art on the furniture that Rebecca brings back to life.

Maureens artist statement has always been   “…The beauty of a work of art is in the work itself.” A quote by Robert Henri, THE ART SPIRIT.  And now, this statement has a new and special meaning, as each piece is a combination of creativeness from both mother and daughter, a very special bond.
