Antique Tall Boy Dresser

I got my hands on this stunning 1900’s antique dresser, sadly the original tiger wood faced drawers had seen better days. I ended up having to remove the old partly missing and very much chipped veneer and decided to give this beauty a true Second Chance! Changing directions from giving him a restoration I ended up wanting to see him in a green.

Refinished in Sherwin-Williams Oakmoss and heavily glazed in a dark brown slightly distressed in areas I saw fit for an aged look. Removing the original knobs and adding different pulls that I revamped in a Chestnut classed up this handsome fellow. I left his casters on, cleaned them up and refinished them in Chestnut as well for an overall makeover.

2020 Portfolio

Although many of us are ready to say goodbye to 2020, I can’t help but reflect on the past year- despite the chaos- I did have a wonderful year. We were surrounded by our wonderful crew who kept us sane during such a weird time in not only the United States of America but the freaking WORLD!? My heart goes out to all of those who have been affected by the pandemic. For the family and friends you have lost- may you find peace. For those of you who have work so very hard on your business only for it to be dismantled abruptly- may you rebuild back bigger then ever! I implore YOU. Keep fighting. Stay Strong. Have faith!

Goodbye 2020! I made lovely creations for old clients as well as I got to meet some new customers! Refinishing a total of 64 pieces: 6 First Dibs, 2 pieces created with my mother, and the rest custom orders! YIPPEE! Thank you!

The first piece I created in 2020 was one I did with my mother. Maureen Flanigan used her creativity and painted a farm house by hand on an antique tall boy dresser. I have him placed in my home and view it daily. Completely in love by it still. The furniture pieces I created this year didn’t give me much trouble, or maybe perhaps I am gaining confidence. I’m not sure what to make of it, but I did enjoy each furniture piece and am incredibly grateful by all of them!

I didn’t set a goal for myself in 2020 which is rather odd. I have made goals for myself each year and did my best to fulfill each one of them and apply them to my life at home and at Second Chance Charms. I am NOT SAYING that the fate of the WORLD is on my shoulders, but I find it rather odd how our past year was basically a shit show and I didn’t have a goal…. ha ha I’m kidding- But just in case I better come up with a 2021 goal!.. because it seems rather coincidental 😉

Evolve

I’m super excited for 2021 and growing Second Chance Charms. Modifying my creativity into something more. Pushing past mind barriers and really jumping in with both feet. Lets see what becomes of 2021!

Antique Dining Chairs

Three more custom chairs finished! Two more to go.

Refinished in Sherwin-Williams Software and glazed in Cyberspace. My client picked out a cream and grey damask fabric from Joanns Fabric Store. Finally adding a dark grey cord to match and to finish them off!

2019 Portfolio

Good bye 2019! WOW! Where do I start, this year I completed the least amount of projects, yet excelled on new techniques, and THAT is something I am so proud of! Refinishing a total of 52 pieces: 6 First Dibs, 4 pieces to complete our remodel in our home, and the rest custom orders!

This past year my clients pushed my abilities; at times it was stressful, there were tears, fits, and doubts. Looking back I am so appreciative for the opportunity and knowledge I have gained, because of the trust you have in me I gain confidence. Blending was this past year’s trend and a few customers pushed my abilities. It’s only continuing into 2020 and I am looking forward to the art we will create!

If you recall my goal last year going into 2019 was FOCUS. Read post here: 2018 Portfolio. A huge part of this year’s total pieces being fewer than any other year, was in part because I DID focus on myself and my family. We entered new chapters in our lives and as a mother I enjoyed the time well spent this summer.

Looking back on 2019, we started the year off with our home renovations. Such an exciting time! We completely changed our look and had fun in the process. I redid some of my pieces, gained new pieces and overall made our house a home! This year my mother also joined in on the fun and completed 2 custom projects and one special dresser for me that I will be sharing at the beginning of the new year! Stay tuned in!

2018 Portfolio

Second Chance Charms had a wonderful 2018 year! Refinishing a total of 78 pieces, fifteen of them were inventory selections and one donation piece! This year brought welcomed challenges and some old family heirlooms!

Looking back on 2018 I was able to finish my Boutique Room project, I was featured in The Happy Home Newsletter as well as Featured in VoyagePhoenix! Last year my goal was Illustration. I didn’t get to do videos (camera shy) but I did try to show tutorials via photos on Behind the Scenes Furniture Group on Facebook. This year I want to Focus. I want to focus on myself, my family and how this passion makes me incredibly happy and humbled.

Navy Armoire

Simple doesn’t mean easy! A sleek solid finish for this transformation! (I find that it is hard to photograph dark blues, or maybe its my camera phone.) Nonetheless, this piece turned out great! A dark navy color matched to a shelf my client provided. New gold dipped white feather pulls are absolutely lovely!

Refinished in a Navy blue and original hardware updated in gold for a nice pop! The body and top have been distressed in the natural wear and tear areas. This piece has a small crack and chip. This is the first piece where I left her as is, instead of fixing and covering her stories, I chose to leave them hoping that someone will love it as much as I do!

To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong

Looking back at my 2015 Portfolio confidence was my 2016 goal for SC Charms as well as in my personal life. Too many days are wasted comparing ourselves to others and wishing to be something we aren’t. I grew as a women through God, my family and my clients this year. Everybody has their own strengths and weaknesses. When you finally accept everything you are, and aren’t, you will truly succeed.

I can look back on 2016 with pride, honor and happiness. SC Charms was Featured in Phoenix Magazine as well as Featured in The Chippy Barn Instagram Inspiration Guide. I completed goals that I had planned for myself, such as focusing some of my energies on my blog/ website. Sharing tutorials and How-To’s…. okay, I only did a few, but that’s a start! Trying new techniques like dry brushing and acid washing a mirror. But more importantly, I had courage, integrity and confidence in all that I did. I didn’t waver. I didn’t hesitate. I inhale confidence. I exhale doubt.

So what’s next for SC Charms, you ask?

Inspire.

My goal this next year is to inspire creativity. There are many ideas surfacing for 2017. New plans being created that I am so very fortunate to be apart of. I am looking forward to a very exciting 2017!

My client picked up a french provincial bedroom set and wanted an updated look. Clean and classic. Starting her bedroom transformation with the tall boy, refinished in a solid look using Sherwin-Williams Extra White. Original hardware revamped in gold.
